The Pebble Index 01 and Spark Ring are both voice rings for catching a thought before it slips away, but they are at very different stages. The Pebble Index 01 is $75, ships within 48 hours for most sizes, records while you hold its button, and never needs charging. Spark Ring is a Kickstarter ring from $179 that you double-tap to record, with a rechargeable battery, IP68 waterproofing and global shipping planned for December 2026. Neither charges a subscription. Buy the Index 01 if you want the cheapest ring you can wear this week; back Spark Ring if you want a lighter, rechargeable ring and can wait.

What Is the Pebble Index 01?

The Index 01 is a stainless steel ring from Core Devices, the company run by Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky. You click the button with your thumb and talk, and it records only while the button is pressed. Pebble says the audio is converted to text on-device and processed locally on your phone, where an on-device language model picks an action, such as creating a note or adding a reminder. The app works offline and does not need a cloud service, with optional cloud backup if you want it.

The unusual part is power. The Index 01 runs on silver-oxide batteries and, in Pebble's words, "You never need to charge it." Pebble quotes roughly 12 to 15 hours of recording, lasting up to two years, after which you replace the ring. It is water resistant to 1 meter, fine for handwashing and showers but not swimming. For developers, Pebble says you can route raw audio or text to your own app by webhook. We covered it in full in Pebble Index 01: The Ring That Catches Your Thoughts.

What Is Spark Ring?

Spark Ring calls itself "Not a Health Tracker. An Idea Tracker." You double-tap the ring, an LED and a small buzz confirm it is listening, and the app turns what you say into notes, tasks and reminders sorted by topic. Reminders come back as "a gentle finger buzz and a phone popup." Spark Ring says your voice "is transcribed on-device and never uploaded to the cloud," and that only encrypted text is processed by its AI.

It is lighter than the Index 01, at under 3 grams in zirconia ceramic and resin, and it is IP68 rated. It charges in a case, with up to 6 hours of continuous recording and a full charge in about an hour. Spark Ring lists a 3 to 5 meter pickup range and transcription in 112 languages. How Much Do They Cost?

Pebble Index 01: $75 at the current pre-order price, rising to $99 later. There is no paid subscription. The cost to plan for is replacement: when the sealed battery runs out, you buy a new ring.

Spark Ring: its homepage lists Kickstarter pledges from $179, and its reservation page offers a $159 price to people who paid a refundable $5 deposit. Spark Ring has not published a retail price. It says there is "Zero subscription. All features included. Forever."

When Can You Get One?

This is the biggest practical difference. Pebble says most sizes are in stock and ship within 48 hours, with sizes 12 and 13 shipping within a month. Spark Ring says it plans to start global shipping in December 2026, and its reservation page mentions first shipments targeted for November 2026. Kickstarter backers are fulfilled in batches, so treat any date as an estimate.

Charging vs Never Charging

The Index 01 never needs a charger, which suits anyone who forgets to charge things, but its battery has a fixed lifespan. Spark Ring needs regular charging in its case, and gives up to 6 hours of continuous recording per charge, but it will not wear out after a set amount of use. If you capture a few short thoughts a day, both work. If you dictate long notes, the Index 01's total of 12 to 15 hours will go faster.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose the Pebble Index 01 if you want the lowest price, a ring you can have this week, offline transcription on your phone, and no charging at all.

Back Spark Ring if you want a lighter ceramic ring that is fully waterproof and rechargeable, with tasks and reminders sorted for you, and you are happy to wait for a crowdfunded product to ship.

Where Legend Fits

Both rings only capture what you remember to press or tap for. Legend One is built for the conversations you would not think to record. It is a voice-first AI memory pendant made for people with ADHD, worn at chest height and always on with no button to press, with a Halo light when it is active. It is not a medical device and does not treat ADHD. Legend turns your conversations into text, with no audio to play back and none kept in your account, and gives you daily summaries and auto-generated to-dos in the Legend App. Legend still captures audio to create the transcript, so recording and consent laws may apply where you live. It is $499 USD including the first year of membership, with free worldwide shipping. Orders ship within 30 days, then arrive in about 14 business days. See how it works.

The Takeaway

The Pebble Index 01 and Spark Ring both turn a quick spoken thought into a note on your phone with no subscription. The Index 01 is $75, ships now and never charges, but its battery has a fixed life. Spark Ring is lighter, waterproof and rechargeable, from $179 on Kickstarter, with shipping planned for December 2026. Pick by whether you want it now or want the extra features later.
