How Legend Works
Legend One is a pendant that listens for speech, turns it into text as it's spoken, and hands you back transcripts, daily summaries and to-dos. No audio file is created at any point. Here's what happens between someone saying something and it showing up in your app.
1. You wear it
Legend sits at chest height on a necklace. That position isn't just about looks. It's roughly the same distance from your mouth as from the mouth of the person in front of you, so it hears both sides of a conversation at a similar level. A watch spends much of the day pointed at a desk, and a collar pin sits much closer to you than to them.
2. It's always on
There's no button to press. Legend captures continuously, so it doesn't depend on you realising in the moment that a conversation matters.
When it's transcribing, the Halo light shows. The people around you can see it's on, rather than having to wonder.
3. Speech becomes text, with no audio file
Three microphones pick up speech and tell speakers apart, so a transcript reads as a conversation rather than one long block of words. Speech is turned into text live, in more than 150 languages.
No audio file is ever created. Sound goes in and words come out. There's no recording saved and none deleted afterwards, because there was never a file. 4. It syncs to your phone
Transcription happens on the device, so your phone doesn't need to be with you. When you're back in Bluetooth range, the text syncs to the Legend App.
5. You get transcripts, summaries and to-dos
The Legend App on iOS and Android shows:
- Transcripts of what was said, with speakers separated
- Daily summaries of your conversations
- Auto to-dos pulled from what was said
- Search across everything, so you don't have to remember where you filed it
Automatic to-dos won't be perfect every time. A quick look each day keeps the list trustworthy.
What you control
- Delete anything. Remove a single conversation or your whole history from the app.
- Encryption. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Your account. Transcripts are tied to your login, not to the device.

What Legend doesn't do
- No playback. There's no audio, so you can't listen back to a moment.
- No button-controlled capture. If you want to choose exactly what gets captured, a press-to-record device suits you better. See ambient vs press-to-record.
- No time management or task starting. Legend helps with catching things. It won't plan your day or get you started. See our ADHD page for what helps with those.
- Not a medical device. It doesn't treat ADHD or any other condition.
Wearing it around other people
Always-on capture means you're wearing a live microphone, which is why the no-audio-file design and the Halo light matter. It's still good practice to tell people, especially at work or in medical appointments, and to check the consent rules where you are. We've set them out in recording consent laws by state.

FAQ
Does Legend record audio?
No. It turns speech into text as it's spoken, and no audio file is ever created. What exists afterwards is a transcript.
Do I have to press anything?
No. Legend captures continuously. The Halo light shows when it's transcribing.
Does my phone need to be nearby?
No. Legend transcribes on the device and syncs the text when your phone is back in Bluetooth range.
How long does the battery last?
Up to two days of continuous use or five days on standby, from about a two-hour USB-C charge.
Is Legend waterproof?
It's splash resistant, not waterproof.
