Plaud has spent the last two years building clip-on and card-shaped recorders. The One Explorer Edition is a different swing. It is a pair of earbuds that record, paired with a charging case that does most of the clever work, and at the time of writing you cannot actually buy one.

That last part matters, so it goes first. Here is what is real, what is still a press claim, and what the hardware actually does.

You cannot buy it right now

Plaud lists the One Explorer Edition at $249.99 USD, and the product page shows it as out of stock. The site says plainly: "The current pre-order has ended. Join the waitlist and be the first to know when pre-orders reopen."

The only button is Join the Waitlist, which opens an email capture box. There is no checkout, no deposit, and no queue position. If you have read a roundup that says pre-orders are open, that roundup is out of date.

Plaud has also not published a ship date. Several write-ups have attached Q4 2026 to it. That figure comes from press coverage, not from anything on Plaud's own site, so treat it as unconfirmed.

What Plaud does confirm is the scarcity. The Explorer Edition is a capped run, available only in the United States, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Canada, and the Netherlands.

The case is the actual product

The easiest thing to get wrong about Plaud One is where the interesting hardware lives. Most coverage credits the earbuds with a four-microphone array. That array is in the charging case.

  • The case: 4 MEMS microphones with AI beamforming, plus 4G LTE with an eSIM. Up to 36 hours of total runtime and up to 25 hours of continuous recording.
  • Each earbud: 3 MEMS microphones and 1 VPU. Roughly 4.5 hours with ANC on, 6 hours with it off, and up to 6 hours of recording.

So the case is not a battery box you leave at home. It is the long-session recorder with its own cellular connection, and the earbuds are the part you wear when you want hands-free capture and playback. Two devices, two jobs.

There is also a "Hey Plaud" voice trigger, though Plaud notes it requires beta access and is not available in every region or language yet.

Plaud Agent and where the transcripts go

The software side is the part Plaud has been pushing hardest. Plaud Agent connects to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Slack and Notion, plus GitHub, Asana, Discord, Miro, Box and Figma, and it supports any MCP-compatible service. The pitch is that a recorded conversation can end as a calendar entry or a task in the tool you already use, rather than a transcript you have to reread.

On storage, Plaud's default is short-lived. The company states that "your recordings, transcriptions, and summaries are automatically deleted from our servers immediately after processing." If you switch on Private Cloud Sync, they are kept until you delete them yourself. That is a real choice with a real trade-off, and it is worth knowing which side of it you are on before you record a sensitive conversation.

What it costs after the hardware

Plaud's subscription tiers, as published:

  • Starter: free, 300 minutes
  • Pro: $17.99 per month, or $8.33 per month billed annually
  • Unlimited: $29.99 per month, or $19.99 per month billed annually
  • Team: $28 per user per month, or $20 per user per month billed annually

The Explorer Edition ships with Starter and US$200 in Plaud credits. Useful, but Starter's 300 minutes is not a long-term plan for anyone recording daily, so the honest way to read $249.99 is as a starting price rather than a total one.

One more thing worth saying: this is an addition to Plaud's line, not a replacement. The Note and NotePin products are still sold and still supported.

Who it suits

If you already live in earbuds, want ANC and call audio and recording from one device, and you like the idea of a case that can keep recording a four-hour session over its own cellular link, Plaud One is an interesting bet. It is built for long-form capture: meetings, interviews, lectures, the kind of session you sit down for.

It is less suited to the thing that happens in a corridor. Getting earbuds in before a two-minute conversation starts is a different ask from wearing something all day.

Plaud One is a capable long-session recorder for people who want earbuds to do double duty. Legend is for people with ADHD who mostly need what was said to still exist an hour later, without a file of their day sitting somewhere.
