Two companies are bringing translation glasses to IFA in Berlin next week, and they have answered the same question in opposite ways. The problem both are solving is how a pair of glasses picks one voice out of a noisy room. RayNeo removed the camera and listens harder. iFLYTEK kept the camera and uses it to watch lips.

That single decision explains the price gap, the weight gap, and the battery gap between them.

Buy the iFLYTEK AI Glasses at around $635 if translation accuracy in genuinely difficult rooms is the job. The language coverage is more than twice as wide, and the camera-assisted lip reading is a real technical advantage when several people are talking at once.

What Is Lip-Motion Recognition, and Does It Matter?

This is the interesting part of the iFLYTEK design and it deserves more attention than it is getting.

Every voice-capture device struggles with the same thing: a room with more than one person talking. Microphone arrays help, because they can work out roughly which direction a sound came from. But direction is a weak signal when three people are seated around a table within thirty degrees of each other.

iFLYTEK's answer is to add a second, completely different signal. The glasses use the camera to track where you are looking and to watch the lip movements of the person in front of you, then combine that with the six-microphone array to decide whose speech to transcribe. The company's own shorthand for it is that you hear who you look at.

If it works as described, it is a better solution to the cocktail party problem than more microphones, because it is not trying to solve an audio problem with audio. Lip movement and speech are correlated but independent, so combining them gives you information that neither alone provides. This is well established in speech research, and it is why the approach is worth taking seriously rather than dismissing as a spec-sheet feature.

The catch is that it requires a camera pointed at the person you are speaking to.

Why Did RayNeo Do the Opposite?

RayNeo shipped the iO with no camera at all, and it was not a cost decision. The company built it as a visual-first device: information goes to your eye, and nothing goes the other way.

Instead of watching lips, the iO uses a bone conduction sensor that picks up the vibration of your own vocal cords through your skull. That tells the device with near certainty which speech is yours, which is the other half of the same problem. It is a narrower solution, because it separates you from everyone else rather than separating everyone else from each other, but it needs no lens.

The cost of iFLYTEK's approach shows up in the battery. Eight hours against roughly two days is not a small difference, and running a camera and vision processing continuously is a large part of why. One of these devices is something you charge nightly. The other is something you charge on Sunday.

The Camera Is Not Just a Spec

Here is where the comparison stops being technical.

Camera-equipped glasses are under real pressure right now. Researchers demonstrated in 2024 that Ray-Ban Meta glasses could be modified to identify strangers against external databases, and more than sixty civil society groups have since warned Congress that adding facial recognition would be a major escalation in public surveillance. Meta's recording indicator light has been criticised after reports that users could bypass it. There are active discussions about whether wiretap statutes should extend to smart glasses at all.

None of that makes iFLYTEK's camera wrong. The company is not using it to build a photo library, it is using it as a sensor, and there is a genuine argument that a camera doing lip reading is less invasive than one taking pictures. But nobody sitting across from you can tell the difference by looking, and that is the practical problem. You will be explaining it.

What Else Is iFLYTEK Bringing to IFA?

The glasses share a stand with the AINOTE 2, which Guinness World Records has certified as the world's thinnest E Ink tablet at 4.2mm. It handles speech transcription in 18 languages, real-time translation in 14, and handwriting conversion in 133, runs Android 14 with Google Play, and comes with a smaller AINOTE Air 2 alongside it.

It is a different category from glasses, but it tells you what iFLYTEK actually is. This is a speech company first, and the glasses are a delivery mechanism for translation and transcription rather than an attempt at a face computer. That focus is visible in the language count.

Which Should You Buy?

Buy the RayNeo iO if you want all-day wear, if you travel and would rather not carry another charger, if the rooms you work in are ordinary, or if you would rather not have a camera on your face at all. At $479 it is also the cheaper way into the category by a clear margin.

Buy the iFLYTEK AI Glasses if you work across many languages, if your difficult conversations happen in crowded rooms with several speakers, or if the GlassClaw agent's meeting transcription and workflow features match how you already work. You are paying about $155 more and accepting a third of the battery life for meaningfully better speaker separation.

The Takeaway

The most useful thing about these two launching in the same week is how clearly they disagree. Both companies looked at the same problem, deciding which voice in a room matters, and one added a sensor while the other removed one. iFLYTEK bet that people will accept a camera if it earns its place. RayNeo bet that they will not.

Worth noticing what both are really building toward. Neither is chasing augmented reality gaming or a screen on your face. They are building devices that keep track of what was said, in a form you can wear all day. That is the same job an AI pendant does, moved to a different part of the body, and the tradeoffs follow the form factor rather than the ambition.
