The SwitchBot AI MindClip is the cheaper way into a clip-on AI recorder at $119.99, while the Plaud NotePin S costs $179 and comes with more ways to wear it, more languages and a published subscription price. Both are press-to-record and both keep an audio file. If price is the deciding factor, the MindClip wins; if you want the fuller, better documented package, the NotePin S does.

Price and the launch bundle

The MindClip is $119.99 in Gray or White on SwitchBot's US store, and it is in stock. The NotePin S is $179 in Black, Silver or Purple, also in stock. That is a $59.01 difference on the hardware.

The launch offer is a bundled plan, not a price cut. SwitchBot's product page reads: "Purchase between 9/3 and 9/28 to receive 6 months of Pro with 7,200 AI transcription minutes. Purchases made on or after 9/29 include 1 month of Pro with 1,200 transcription minutes." One caution. SwitchBot's own help center gives different dates for the six-month trial (19 August to 23 September) and says the trial renews "at the original price of the corresponding trial plan" if you do not cancel. Check what your cart shows before you rely on either set of dates.

Three-year cost

Plaud publishes everything you need. Staying on the free Starter plan, the NotePin S costs $179 over three years. On Pro billed yearly it is $179 plus three years at $99.99, which is $478.97. On Unlimited billed yearly it is $898.97.

For the MindClip, the honest answer is that the number is not published. SwitchBot's US site does not list a Pro price after the bundle ends. If you stay within the free minutes, three years costs $119.99. Mighty Gadget's review reported UK pricing of £99.99 a year for Pro, but that is a reviewer's figure in pounds, not a US price from SwitchBot. Until SwitchBot publishes one, treat the MindClip's three-year cost as $119.99 plus an unknown.

Plaud's Pro plan and the MindClip's bundle both work out to 1,200 transcription minutes a month, which makes the six-month offer easy to value: roughly half a year of what Plaud charges $99.99 a year for.

Wearing it

This is Plaud's clearest win. The NotePin S ships with a clip, a magnetic pin, a lanyard and a wristband, so you can wear it on a lapel, around your neck or on your wrist. SwitchBot says the MindClip "clips easily onto a collar, bag, or lanyard". Weight is a tie in practice: 16.8 g against 0.61 oz.

Capture and battery

Both are press-to-record. Plaud says "One press to start recording." SwitchBot's product page does not describe the control, but Mighty Gadget's review describes a physical toggle, with start, pause and stop also in the app. Either way, nothing is captured until you start it.

Both makers quote up to 20 hours of recording. Plaud also publishes 40 days of standby and a two-hour charge. SwitchBot publishes a pickup range of up to 3 m.

What happens to the audio

Both keep an audio file, and both let you play it back. That is useful when a transcript garbles a name or a number.

The difference is the default location. SwitchBot's user agreement says "cloud storage is provided for recording audio uploaded by you, so that you may view, play back, edit or delete it in the App at any time", and that "when the device is charging and connected to the Wi-Fi network configured by you, the device may automatically upload audio files directly to the cloud server without passing through the App." Its help center says data is not deleted automatically while your account is active.

Plaud's Trust page says "audio and transcription data are not stored in the cloud unless the Cloud Sync feature is enabled by the user", and that recordings are deleted from the device once transferred to your phone. Plaud processes in the cloud either way, but keeps the stored copy on your phone by default.

Languages and app

Plaud lists 112 languages. SwitchBot lists 30+, including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese.

The MindClip has its own AI MindClip app, separate from the SwitchBot smart home app, with summaries, to-dos, memory search and calendar sync to Google, Outlook and Yahoo. SwitchBot also mentions connecting AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude. Plaud has a mobile app plus Plaud Web and Plaud Desktop.

What SwitchBot says about Plaud

SwitchBot has a help article titled "How Is SwitchBot AI MindClip Different from Plaud?". Read it and you will find it does not mention Plaud in the body. It says: "A regular voice recorder mainly captures and saves audio. SwitchBot AI MindClip goes a step further by helping turn what you record into information that is easier to review, understand, and find later." That is SwitchBot's view of its own product. It is fair as far as it goes, but Plaud also transcribes, summarizes and organizes, so it is not a point of difference between these two.

Which should you buy?

Buy the MindClip if you want the lowest entry price, you are buying before the bundle changes, and you mostly record meetings at a desk. Buy the NotePin S if you want four ways to wear it, 112 languages, a published subscription price and audio kept off the cloud by default.
